Market Review: Another success in March, what to look forward to in April!
Silchester Village Market April
Next Market – Saturday 2nd April 10.00am to 12.30pm
Whilst, we normally have an intense dislike of queues, it warmed the cockles of our hearts to see long lines of people waiting to buy fresh fish from David Meadows at the March Silchester Village Market. Thank you to all who came along and supported the stall holders, in the best possible way, by buying what they had to sell.
Simple economics says that if there are a good number of customers then via word of mouth, more and more people want to come to our Market with their great produce and products. This makes the Market an interesting place to shop on a Saturday morning and meet up with neighbours.
Tony Hammond from The Cheese Agent will now be a regular attendee, please see our other article in the magazine about the locally produced cheeses he will be bringing for you try. Ben Paul will be back with his beautifully made handmade wrought iron work to include log baskets, welly racks, boot scrapers, braziers, pea stands, obelisks and rose arches. Great presents for friends, family or even yourself! After April, he will then return in the autumn.
The very popular David Meadows, our fishmonger from Devon Fishcakes received great feedback from his customers so now he feels he knows better what you would like to see more of, he will also ensure he has more ready filleted fish for you so you don’t have to wait so long while he prepares your orders. Brenda from The Coffee House will now be a regular stallholder selling her fresh Arabica coffee, freshly ground or beans, the smell of coffee in the Club Room was wonderful.
Old favourites of our wide range of preserves, chutneys, jellies, curds and marmalades; local hand-made condiments; local free range eggs from Bloomfield Hatch Farm; and Wyatts will be there with your Sunday joints and other great meats. Spring plants will also be available. Cake will be there in great quantities, including Suzi & Jane’s (from Pop Up Café) famous Chocolate Brownies and lemon drizzle cake. I treated my work colleagues to some of their cake and they still haven’t stopped talking about it! Tracey of TJ Designs will be back with her range of handmade cards and gifts, including handmade chocolates from Tilly’s Treats.
To ensure there is always something different our NEW STALLS for April (correct at the time of writing) include: Burghfield based, Love Phoebe with their handmade vintage and industrial lighting; Penny Cooper with her range of ladies scarves and bags; Phoenix Cards, Luvhearts and Susannah’s Sauces. Sadly, Jo from GLB will be on holiday for the next Market so Bramley Bakery will be attending this month to ensure you can still buy freshly baked bread products. For the kids, Suzi and Jane will be bringing along their pocket money sweets.
Thanks once again to all our customers who support the Market. We look forward to seeing you again on April 2nd.
